Let’s embark on quick and cheap dates! Where “quick” means simplicity, demanding minimal and easy planning, and “cheap” translates to affordability, sometimes even at no cost. Let’s go!!!
7 speedy winter date ideas after work
The power of micro-dates lies in their ability to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary. These brief encounters may be small, but the connections they forge are monumental. After all, winter season also opens the door to cozy and delightful date nights.
After a day of dealing with work challenges, there’s no need for very elaborate plans. Sometimes we plan ahead, and other times, we plan last minute. Here are some ideas that might enrich your day or evening.
1. Walking tours
Exploring our city through a free walking tour is an experience that transcends the mundane. It’s not just about strolling through the bustling streets and admiring the iconic landmarks. It’s also offers a genuine connection to its history, culture, and hidden gems.
Picture yourself and your partner walking on the streets that you normally go for a walk but this time guided by a knowledgeable local who shares funny stories through charming neighborhoods, offering a panoramic view of the city’s evolution.
Last walking tour we did was called “Free Street Art & Graffiti Tour London” and it was amazing! Easy to plan and free of charge since participants give tips to the tour guide for their work.
There are a huge variety of free walking tours online.
Suggestion: check SANDEMANs NEW Europe or Strawberry tours (for example), and just need to pick one 🙂
2. Comedy show
After a demanding and intense day at work, few things are more therapeutic than an evening full of laughter! A place where you can laugh so badly that you forget that you are still in the middle of the week. Moreover, the unpredictability of comedy keeps the mind engaged and present, steering it away from work-related concerns.
It’s a form of entertainment that demands little from the viewer except to sit back, relax, and enjoy the show 🙂
One of our favourite comedy spots is in the city center. Last time, we found a cozy comedy bar on DesignMyNight, making our Wednesday more relaxed for under £10 for two tickets.
3. Jazz night
If you’re seeking an exquisite jazz experience in London, several venues cater to the rich and diverse jazz scene in the city. One such place is Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, in the heart of Soho. This iconic venue has been a jazz institution since 1959, hosting legendary performers and providing an intimate setting for jazz enthusiasts. You can also exploring the Jazz Café in Camden, or the soulful vibes of the Blues Kitchen, for example. The big advantage is that during the week, it is cheaper and quieter than Friday or Saturday night.
Recently, we went to a place in Shoreditch called Old Street Records. Between Monday and Wednesday, they have got a menu literally called “Cheap date” – will be less than 30 pounds for two people. What best way of starting your week than having a bite and listening to amazing music?
4. Galleries, museums and exhibitions
Why not shake things up a bit? Enter the fascinating world of galleries, museums, and exhibitions – a hidden treasure of creativity, history, and, most importantly, quick and cheap date ideas that will give you and your partner something different to talk about.
Galleries and museums are your ticket to a journey through time. Whether you’re fascinated by ancient civilizations or the whispers of modern innovation, they offer an experience that not only educates but also provides a unique setting for a affordable date.
So grateful that we live in a just vibrant city with an enormous cultural variety. If we mentioned all the London galleries and museums available, it would be a very extensive article, therefore, we’ll only highlight some of our favourites (and for free!) 🙂
- Whitechapel Art Gallery. Internationally acclaimed for its exhibitions of modern and contemporary art and its pioneering education and public events programms. It’s around where we live, making it perfect for a quick and cheap date, after a busy day at work.
- Tate Modern. Go for a walk along the Thames and see how a power station has been transformed into London’s center for modern and contemporary art. Make the most of your time together. Not only exploring world-class paintings, photographs, but also embrace the stunning view of the river from the Gallery’s cafe.
- Imperial War Museum. A fascinating museum that tells us about the history of modern war through the stories of modern conflicts. From the First World War to the present day.
- Natural History Museum – a must visit! We’ve lost count of how many times we’ve been to this museum! It’s impossible not to feel passionate and excited with journey through the wonders of our planet. They also run sleepovers too, so you can actually stay the night in the shadow of the dinosaurs 🙂
Recommendation: Check the timetables of different galleries and museums near you, so you can maximise your time together. Weekdays often mean fewer crowds, allowing you and your partner to enjoy the exhibitions at your own pace.
Fun fact: A lot of London boroughs offer unique experiences! Because we live in Tower Hamlets, we were able to visit Tower of London and Tower Bridge for only 1£ per person! Bear in mind that each ticket for Tower London costs around 34£, and it’s 12,30£ per adult in Tower Bridge. So, take advantage of the area you live in and innovate your dates 🙂
5. Dancing off date night monotony
The beauty of dance classes lies in their diversity. Whether you’re into the spicy rhythms of salsa, the elegance of ballroom, or the playful kicks of swing, there’s a dance style for every dynamic duo. Trust us, is so much fun!!!
Dance classes are not just about learning the steps. They’re about getting to know each other in a whole new way. From sharing laughter during a misstep to reveling in the joy of mastering a new routine together, the dance floor becomes such a fun way of starting your evening.
You can choose a Salsa, Tango, or a Bachata class, for example, either with just your partner or with a different group of people and having a teacher to assist you! We tried a Bachata group class with Salsateca Dance School and loved it so much! The environment was welcoming, and one class was £13 per person. After the class, we could still enjoy free social dancing until late.
6. Quizmasters
How about stepping into the world of pub quizzes for a date night? That’s not only budget-friendly but also promises a quirky blend of fun, laughter, and a dash of friendly competition.
Picture this: cozy pub with a fireplace and the thrill of a quiz night awaiting you. Pub quizzes are the unsung heroes of quick and cheap dates, transforming a casual evening into a lively adventure. Booking a slot is free, making it the perfect spot for a date that’s as breathtaking as the scenery. If you are struggling to book it, you can also check out the Garden At 120. It is also for free and no booking required (bear in mind that is an outdoor place).
